UW Translation Studies Hub Renewed for 2022-23!

We are thrilled to announce that the UW Translation Studies Hub has been renewed for the 2022-23 academic year by the Simpson Center for the Humanities.

The Hub will be led by UW faculty Nancy Bou Ayash (English), Aria Fani (Near Eastern Languages & Civilization) and Sasha Senderovich (Slavic Languages and Literatures & Jackson School of International Studies).

Established in 2019, the TSH is currently led by Michael Biggins (UW Libraries & Slavic Languages and Literatures), Heekyoung Cho (Asian Languages and Literature) and Rich Watts (French and Italian Studies). During the past three years, the TSH has provided scholars, students, and translators at UW (and in the larger Seattle community) with a scholarly platform for theoretical and practical discussions centered on translation. The TSH has also hosted lectures and workshops by scholars and translators from the UW community and beyond.

Future goals of the TSH include:

  • Making translation studies a visible and integrative fixture of undergraduate humanistic curricula at the University of Washington.

  • Increasing translation literacy across the university.

  • Inviting renowned scholars of translation pedagogy to our campus.

  • Enabling the creation of new undergraduate courses that focus on translation and the design of modules on translation that can be integrated into any course across UW in both the humanities and humanistic social sciences.

To stay in touch with the TSH, find us on Facebook and Twitter or subscribe to our newsletter.
