Nancy Bou Ayash

Nancy Bou Ayash is an Associate Professor of Language and Rhetoric in the English Department. She is the author of Toward Translingual Realities in Composition: (Re)Working Local Language Representations and Practices (winner of the 2021 Research Impact Award by the Conference on College Composition and Communication (CCCC)) and co-editor of Translingual and Transnational Graduate Education in Rhetoric and Composition (forthcoming with Utah State UP). She serves as elected Executive Committee Associate Chair of the CCCC Transnational Composition Group. 

Bringing together perspectives in rhetoric and composition, critical sociolinguistics, food studies, and translation studies, Nancy is currently working on a large-scale project in which she traces how the food habits and memories of immigrants and refugees in the U.S. from Lebanon and Syria travel across linguistic and national borders in order to create a new ethos of collective action through the prism of translation.

Amanda Doxtater

Amanda Doxtater is an Associate Professor and Barbro Osher Endowed Chair of Swedish Studies in the Department of Scandinavian Studies. Her current book project explores the intersections between popular film melodrama and Scandinavian art cinema in the work of Danish film director Carl Th. Dreyer.

Aria Fani

Aria Fani is an assistant professor of Middle Eastern Languages and Cultures at the University of Washington in Seattle. He co-directs the Middle East Center with Rawan Arar and is a co-investigator of the Translation Studies Hub at the UW. His first book, Reading across Borders: Afghans, Iranians, and Literary Nationalism, was published by the University of Texas Press this year. In addition to teaching and research, Aria engages in social advocacy for non-citizen Americans, particularly asylum seekers from Central America.

Sasha Senderovich​

Sasha Senderovich is an Assistant Professor in the department of Slavic Languages & Literatures and in the Jackson School of International Studies; he is also a faculty affiliate at the Stroum Center for Jewish Studies. He is the author of How the Soviet Jew Was Made (Harvard University Press, 2012). Together with Harriet Murav, he translated, from Yiddish, David Bergelson’s novel Judgment (Northwestern University Press, 2017); the pair is presently at work on In the Shadow of the Holocaust: Short Fiction by Jewish Writers from the Soviet Union, a collection of short stories translated from Yiddish and Russian under advanced contract with Stanford University Press.

Anna Learn

Anna Learn is a Ph.C. in the UW’s Interdisciplinary Near and Middle Eastern Studies Ph.D. program, studying Persian, Hispanic, and South Asian literature. She is passionate about public-facing scholarship, and has written for popular literary platforms such as Full Stop, Electric Literature, and World Literature Today. You can find her recent work here. Anna was the Chair for the inaugural cycle of the Mo Habib Translation Prize in Persian Literature in 2023.
